Be Your West End Best

Physical Development

Physical activity is vital in children’s all-round development, enabling them to pursue happy, healthy and active lives.  Here at West End we are proud of our recently enhanced outdoor Early Years area and are lucky enough to have a wealth of outdoor space to allow the children to develop their gross motor skills.  Our sensory garden and trim trail are a great tool in supporting their sensory explorations, as well as their strength, co-ordination and positional awareness.  By providing opportunities for play both indoors and outdoors, we allow our children to develop their core strength, stability, balance, spatial awareness, co-ordination and agility.  Opportunities for developing our fine motor skills also occur both inside and outside of the classroom; by ensuring we offer repeated and varied opportunities to explore and play with small world activities, puzzles, arts and crafts and the practice of using small tools over time allow our children to develop proficiency, control and confidence.  We are proud our carefully planned activities also support our PSED goals and school aim to promote good social and emotional well-being a well as happiness and healthy bodies.
