Be Your West End Best

Early Years Curriculum

Children learn most effectively through a balance of self-initiated experiences, adult supported activities and adult-planned instruction.

In play, young children learn much about themselves and the world around them.

The children are, therefore, given daily opportunities to explore and investigate in free play situations alongside their more formal teaching.

During your child's time in the Foundation Stage your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development. These are: Communication and Language; Physical Development; Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Literacy; Mathematics; Understanding the World; and Expressive Arts and Design.

The professionals teaching and supporting your child will ensure that the activities are suited to your child’s unique needs. The curriculum is designed to be flexible so that staff can follow your child's unique needs and interests.
