Be Your West End Best

Year 2 Penguin Class

Penguin Class

Your Penguin Staff team are Mrs Gill, Mrs Wharton and Sue

Penguin Class have been very busy!

This term we are learning all about the 1960s from the space race, to music, fashion, transport, art and everyday life. We will be learning about lots of famous people from the sixties including Andy Warhol, David Hockney and Neil Armstrong.

We will support and nurture each and every individual child both emotionally and academically over the year and look forward to the great things the children will achieve.

Homework will be set on a Thursday and returned on a Monday via Tapestry - commencing 17.9.20 . We will aim to send a reading book home with your child each Thursday which can be kept at home to share together until Monday. We will then ask that these books are returned on a Monday for quarantining. Don't forget to access Reading Planet from home too which has lots of quizzes for you to complete on the stories you have read. In school, we will read lots of different materials regularly with your child. We ask that you support us in reading a little bit every day at home - reading regularly is crucial!

Homework activities will be set every Thursday on Tapestry and are expected to be completed by the following Monday. These home learning experiences will be focused on reinforcing Key English and Maths skills and will be varied in content allowing for creativity, challenge and accessibility across the class. These set tasks will be celebrated through a range of different approaches for example: comments by a member of staff; next steps for learning; viewing and sharing in class on screen or discussion with the children.

Any other snapshots of home learning or exciting moments that are sent into school via Tapestry, whilst welcome,  may not be commented upon or shared in class due to time restrictions.

Attached below is a topic homework plan which will enable to children to be creative and follow their interests. Please complete one project each half term and share your creations with us through Tapestry.

PE day is Wednesday and the children will wear their school PE kit all day. Milk is available for the children to drink in a morning ( email the office to order for your child if they wish to have this). There is enough fruit and vegetables delivered to school for all children in year 2 to have a piece every day so please do not send snacks in from home.
