Tour de France
In preparation for the Tour de France coming to Yorkshire and also as part of our Healthy Schools work, we have been working with Sustrans on lots of exciting projects in our school.
Sustrans, are a leading charity enabling people to choose healthier, cleaner and cheaper methods of sustainable transport. They have provided lots of information to the children in an assembly, information to parents at our parent's consultation evening in November and have attended school council meetings.
Our school council helped select two events which have taken place this term. The first was ‘Get off stabilisers’ to help our Reception and Key stage one children ride their bikes without stabilisers. The second was for our Key stage two children when ‘Bike Doctor’ visited school to check over the children's bikes and repair any issues, such as punctures, flat tyres and adjusting gears.
We hope that these events will enable us to get ready for the ‘Big Pedal’ which takes place in March. This is the UK’s biggest cycle/scoot to school event and we hope as many families as possible will take part. Every time someone cycles or scoots to school, this is logged and given a designated amount of mileage. This is proportionate to the size of the school, so that every school gets a fair chance at being successful and being rewarded with prizes for their efforts. We are hoping to make this event as fun as possible and we will be sending more information out in the near future.
We will be taking part in lots of other fun, healthy and exciting cross curricular activities linked to this exciting event which is coming to our region in July.
Please see below some photographs of the events which have taken place; including a Dr Bike assembly, children learning to ride their bikes without stabilisers and Dr Bike's surgery.
