Early Birds and Night Owls (Before and After School Clubs)

Night Owls and Early Birds comply with the National Standards for under 8's day care. The clubs are annually inspected by Ofsted, the registration number is EY365017

Both clubs are currently registered for 32 under 8 children at each session and are open to children aged 3-11 attending West End School.

Children's places are booked half-termly in advance.

Annual registration fee of £10 per family

A regular monthly invoice is issued 5 days prior to the 1st of each month and are calculated on 10 fixed monthly amounts and are based on the annual booking form submitted.

Child care vouchers are acceptable, at present the club is registered for Busy Bees number, 00011732, Care4 group number 16191924 and Accor vouchers number P20121095.

The club also offers child care sessions for teacher training days and Fun Club School Holiday provision for some of the school holidays.

 

Extra Curricular Activities

Boys and girls enjoying rugby. Rugby is taught within the PE curriculum and as an extra curricular activity. We offer both tag and contact rugby.

A wide variety of clubs are held at Lunch times and after school and school takes part in competitions and tournaments.

 

Clubs

We have a wide range of lunch time and after school clubs, these are open to girls and boys equally. We offer a number of sports clubs including Athletics, Rugby, Football, Cross Country, Rounders, skipping and Basket ball. In addition to the clubs children engage in friendly and competitive matches. Our rugby team's season culminated in playing infront of a full Headingley Stadium at the half time break and our Athletics team competed in the Airedale and Wharefdale Tournament at Carnegie.

We also offer Art, Science, French, Recorders and ICT clubs. Our year 6 pupils are also offered the option of attending a Science club at Horsforth High School.

We have just established a 'Let's Cooking Club' which is part of a national network of cooking clubs, which aims to teach pupils cooking skills to enable them to cook, tasty healthy food. Another aim of this club is raise children's awareness of economic well being and the club take on project to develop this skills.

Peripatetic Music Lessons
The peripatetic lessons taught within school at present include the Violin, Trumpet,cornet Trombone, Guitar, Flute, Oboe, Saxaphone and Clarinet.

Music
We see music as one of our many strengths in school. The school has an orchestra many recorder groups and a choir. The children have many opportunities to perform for the school and for parents, e.g. in school assemblies, school concerts, at Leeds Town Hall and at the Horsforth Music Festival.

 

Dolphin Day Care Nursery

This runs on the school site, but is independent from West End School and Nursery.
Dolphin Day Nursery caters for children from 12 weeks to 5 years old. If you are using Dolphin Day Nursery for your full or part time child care, they will deliver and collect children from our education nursery, if parent wish.

 

Visits and Visitors

We have many visitors in school who support the children's topic work. Here a police officer is working with y2 children.

P.T.A.

We are fortunate at West End to have a very active, hard working PTA. The PTA organise many social and fund raising events, such as children's discos, coffee mornings, Ice Skating, Family Trivia Quizzes, Easter Egg Rolling, Asian Cookery Evenings, Christmas Fayres, Fun Runs. Our contribution to the Horsforth Gala is the PTA float.

We are fortunate at West End to have a very supportive, hard working PTA.

Money donated to the school by the PTA has helped to fund projects and equipment such as computers, digital cameras, construction equipment, books, a new stage and fun markings for the school playground.

At present the PTA are actively fund raising to provide extra resources for our Sensory and Activity play area in the school grounds which is used within curriuclum and at play times, to stimulate senses and develop social and emotional skills. Also an imaginative area to extend literacy skills through role play, drama and physical skills.

Governors

West End School Governors are very active in school life. The Governing body comprises, parents, teaching and non teaching staff and members of the local community.

There are a wide range of committees with various responsibilities which are influencial in the every day running of the school. The Learning and Teaching Curriculum Committee annually come into school and work along side staff and children to experience and gain an over view of provision in our school. In addition Governors support the work in school by helping in class, assisting on class visits and being a critical friend.
